History Made
Everyone has a guilty pleasure that they may not want to admit that they have. In my case I have to admit that I love politics and today I am really excited. Why? Today is the first day of the Democratic National Convention. The ticket this year is historic. Why? Senator Kamala Harris is the Vice President pick. She is the first woman of color to be the VP pick for a major political party. What does this mean? The Democratic Party is making history and it’s about time.
I think this is important. As an author I feel an obligation to reflect the times. I want to reflect on the news of the day. I think it’s essential for books to be relevant. Does that mean that I feel a need to write a book about Senator Harris? Not really, but I do think writing about race relations and gender equality is a must, for me at least.

In life sometimes we are told or taught that things are off limits. Knowing the cultural norms is important, but you should be able to “talk” about everything and anything in my opinion.
As authors I think we have to be bold enough to speak, through our books, about the times even if some may not like what we have to say. As for me, I say: Congratulations Senator Harris! Women of color deserve representation. I for one will be proudly voting for the Biden/Harris ticket come November.
