Reading Rules!

This website is dedicated to writing, reading and current events. I was a High School English Teacher before I became a journalist. I went into teaching to share my love of reading with students. When I got there I quickly realized that teaching was more about classroom management. The kids walked all over me. I was a softie and a pushover. So I switched careers and became a journalist, but I never lost my love of reading.

Reading a good book can take you away to another place. You are transported to the world of the characters on the page. I can see the characters in my mind as I read. It’s magical. It’s an escape from reality and sometimes we all need that escape from our own realities.

There’s a lot of interest in graphic novels these days.  More and more people are realizing that they are visual learners.  I am not sure how I would characterize my preferred learning method.  Regardless, I learned at a young age that every novel is a graphic novel to me.  Why do I say that?  Because I can see the book in my mind as I am reading.

I used to get teased for reading slow.  I wasn’t reading slow, I was seeing the events of the book in my mind.  That takes time you know.  Regardless of how you learn best or what your reading experience is, reading rules.

So never stop reading!
